Next month...

  • Oct. 6th, 2009 at 7:31 PM

I'm really starting to look forward to NaNoWriMo next month. I've only done it (alas 30,000 words) once before, but I had heaps of fun with all the online discussion and sorting out my plot and helping others with character development and the like.  I've got a rough idea I've been playing around with, at this stage it's YA (surprise surprise) and I've shelled out the three main characters and how the story is going to kick off... is that all I need to get started? I'm probably walking into this totally unprepared, but enthusiastic none the less. Plus side, if I'm happy with the story I can further develop it over the three month break I have from Uni mid-November. I really need to think what else I can do to keep busy, three months is the longest time!

In other news, just finished reading "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel for my contemporary literature course. Wow. Really not what I had expected. The first few chapters were hard for me to get into, but once the floating in the Pacific plot got started I was hooked (perhaps a pun intended?). But gruesome! I really don't think I've ever read a book so macabre in my life. Overall, the book did have some interesting concepts and I enjoyed some of the magic realism--even if in the end I doubted what was real or not. A very bizarre, but interesting read. Next on the list is "Atonement", looking forward to reading as I've already seen the movie and enjoyed it thoroughly.

oh dear...

Ok. So for the past few hours I have been glued to the computer screen. Why you ask?

Well I have stumbled across the Shoebox Project. Now, I know I'm a little behind times and I think the hysteria has died down (Yes I have taken a little visit to cult_sbp, and have seen there are still faithful fans). What has shocked me most of all is that I have fallen in love with Remus/Sirius.

I have previously shipped R/S and have visited Wolfstar on FAP several times, but now I *understand* all those puppyshipper moments and arguments that shippers of R/S talk about.

It feels so funny to start shipping another ship this late in the game. I feel like such a n00b, but I guess better late than never...

Oh and a question? How often is the SBP updated these days? You see, I fear I'm fretfully becoming obsessed and cannot wait for the next installment >.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

How was everyone’s night? I hoped you all partied hard and didn't get out of your pj's on NY's day until you realized it was 2pm.

As for NY resolutions... hmmm I'm not superstitious about them or anything, but I'm always stumped on what to make them. It seems the resolutions I want to make now are for the immediate future and wouldn't be for the whole of 2007. Gah, I can't believe it's 2007! What will this year bring? *huggles flist and lj* Nobody can take my fandoms away! *slaps looming 2007 studies and assignments away*

aksjdpoiaerjge... I have decided I DO NOT like New Year's Day. I just end up faffing around doing nothing in particular (except msn chats with the lofflies! ♥) and I end up regretting half the things I did and said the night before...

I need a pic!me-up fic... or a QoM update. When all else fails I can always go and plonk myself in front of the tv and watch every episode of KKM. NOT IN CHRONILOGIAL ORDER!!! *cackles*

NaNoWriMo

  • Oct. 26th, 2006 at 7:10 AM

OMFG. I just signed up for NaNoWriMo...

Gah! Never let your friends talk you into a 50,000 word novel less then seven days before you have to start typing your un-nimble fingers off. Has anyone completed WriMo before? Is it even possible?!

Well, I guess the only thing to calm my nerves is reassurance that maybe some other people on my flist are this crazy ^.^* If so, what's your username? I'll go add you to my writing-buddies page :D

So 50,000 words... *brainstorms*

A few days ago a good friend of mine suggested that I checked out the PostSecret phenomenon that seems to be circling around the internet. Being the internet junkie I am she was surprised that I hadn't heard of it before now. I checked out the site and read that Sunday's updates of secrets people have sent in from all over the world.

For those of you you aren't aware of PostSecret, it's this blog where you anonymously send in your deepest or darkest secrets on a postcard and this guy publishes them online for people all over the world to read.

I was blown away with the rush of emotion and connection I felt with these people who I've never met and will probably never meet, but while I was reading their secret, it felt like I'd known them forever. Sometimes the secrets are heartwarming and other times the secrets are ones of regret or worry for the future. Some secrets make you laugh out loud and others make you squirm in your seat.

I recommend anyone who hasn't seen this site to do so. Publishing your secrets online seems like a strange concept, but it makes the world seem so very human.

Yes, I have been into anime for some time now and yes, I have visited the Kyo Kara Maou website several times and perused the screen shots of the first episodes. Even so, it wasn't until a few days ago that I actually discovered the series on DVD in JB Hi-Fi and trusted the recommendations of several fandomers enough that I bought the first volume.  And am I glad I did so? HELL YES!!!

I am now, officially, a KKM fan! I recommend the series to anyone who enjoys anime, because even though the series has it's serious plot lines, it is a parody of so many facets of anime. The only bad thing is I will have to spend around $AU160 to collect all the volumes! Not including the Collectors Edition DVD Box *facepalm* Whoever knew fandoms could be so expensive? *avoids looking at various pieces of merchandise scattered around room*

KH2 HAS FINALLY BEEN RELEASED IN AUSTRALIA !!!!1!!One!!!

I have been playing non-stop for the past 10 hours... *eye-twitch* But it is so worth it ^.^ I've just arrived in Timeless River, must go now to keep playing!

Just before I go though, when I was buying the game at EB they were selling the Strategy Book for 20% off so naturally, I bought it as well. On telling my KH-Obsessed friend this news I got a full lecture on why cheat books are bad. Why, I cleverly answered that this was no cheat book, but in fact a piggy-back manual based around pure strategy. My friend insists that she will indeed walk on her own two feet.

You see I would have no chance of ever seeing the secret ending if it wasn't for this dear book, but mums the word eh?

Cheerio LJ world, I'm off to play a RP game in RL *cackles and realizes that too much tv isn't good for anyone*

NEWSFLASH! - I'm posting on FAP again *gasps*

cute stick Malfoy
*Is high on GnH lurve* and I am willing to spread it! Anyone who hasn't gone back to the good ol' FAP GnH thread is really missing out! Thread 121 is the bigggest reunion I have ever seen. What has spurred this recent regathering? Do we all fear that our sailing will end all too soon?

I don't know what's in the water or the air, but H/D is certainly respreading to all the oldbies again and I know I've recaught the youthful fever at FAP *runs off to frolic around FAP threads*

ASTB - Jim

At last I am back. I have not left my faithful fandom, but alas! I have been away on quite a hiatus (as to what I was doing, I'd say many of you would understand RL has a way of capturing us all!)

So what has been going on? Are there any big changes in the HP fandom? (new fics I must read, challenges, dilemmas, theories, etc.)

While lurking in the shadows I have become quite attached to the H/D website 'Darkest Magic'. Very original site and their 'Of the Month' section keeps me amused for several hours.

Oh, and I posted to the GnH ship a couple of hours ago. (on FAP of course) I was quite surprised that I didn't recognize over half of the shippers there. They seem like a rather friendly bunch though. I was rather disappointed to see I had missed out on the beloved Aja and Melissa by a mere couple of pages. I do hope more old faces start reappearing around the fandom, it seems many have moved on from the H/D ship...

And before I go, has anyone seen ‘Velvet Goldmine’? I can’t believe I haven’t heard of it until this point! (Some may ask If I’ve had my head in sand, but I will squash those rumours now!) If you have seen it, does it live up to previews? I’ve read a synopses and it sound like it’s quite a good movie. Agree/Disagree?

DM?

  • Jan. 3rd, 2006 at 9:27 PM

This is a totally crazy and irrelevant theory, but has anyone noticed that Draco Malfoy had the same initials as the Dark Mark? DM...

*walks off to think of an actual REASON for this connection*

Oscillate Wildly - Whoa!

  • Dec. 18th, 2005 at 10:11 PM

I am currently in the middle of reading 'Oscillate Wildly' by Marks and it's the first HP fanfic I've read where the author challenges the idea that the whole magical world, may just be a figment of Harry's imagination. He's really just in a coma in some random muggle (well muggles don't *technically* exists) but anyhu...

Yeah, so far it is totally mind blowing! At first I just through, 'Nar, this is just another one of Harry's carzy dreams' *rolls eyes* But then you really start to contemplate this other world, being the *real* world, then maybe it's all just one of Voldermort's master plans....

Let's just put it this way, it really screws with your mind! Also i drank way to much coke and I need some shut eye...

Has anyone else read 'Oscillate Wildly' and if you did, what did you think?

New ff.net account

  • Nov. 26th, 2005 at 11:13 PM

My first entry...

I've also just opened my new fanfiction.net account and have to wait a painful three days until I can publish any of my stories.

Why is it they have this policy? I am aware that there may be spam, but three days? Not to mention the ban of NC-17...
